Why I Am an Atheist
I may have lost my belief in God and religion, but that does not mean I lost my faith. I have plenty of faith in us. I think we can be amazing…but not while we cling to the past. What I found when I gave up religion is a profound belief in the potential of human beings. There is power in us. Power of mind, power of spirit, power as individuals and as a species. I believe that what religion does is take our power away and give it instead to a deity who we created in the first place, who does nothing to help us and who must then be beseeched for the restoration of that power which was ours to begin with.
Yes. This. All of this.
